This meal inspired by the boxed meals, Hamburger Helper, is one of our go-to quick and easy meals on a busy evening. I especially love that it only dirties one pot. The ingredients are pantry staples for us, so we always have them on hand. The leftovers are great, maybe even better than fresh. It is an all around family favorite meal. Later in the post, I share my kitchen tools for this meal. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Ingredients:
- 1 LB ground meat
- 1/2 of an onion chopped
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 4 c beef broth
- 1 16oz bag/box of pasta (I use fusilli)
- 1 6oz can tomato paste + 1 can of water
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup shredded cheese

I love that this meal has simple ingredients. We use ground venison, but you could for sure use ground hamburger or pork in this recipe! You also could use a different shape of pasta as well!
Instructions:
- Add oil or butter to pan with ground meat, chopped onion, and minced garlic. Cook until all of the meat is browned, and there is no more pink.
- Add full carton of beef broth, tomato paste, and pasta.
- Fill empty tomato paste can with water, shake it to get any excess in the can, and add to pan.
- Bring to a light simmer, then lower heat to low/medium to medium. Stir every few minutes to prevent burning/sticking to the bottom of the pan.
- Once all of the liquids have been absorbed, turn off the heat. Add sour cream, and mix it until it is all combined.
- Cheese – either mix into the pot OR if you have anyone picky about cheese (like in our home), you can leave it aside and individually top bowls.
- Enjoy!!

This is the pot that I use when I make this meal. My husband says this is a meal that is better the second day. I love these glass containers for storing leftovers. My go to utensil is this spatula! I use it so often, that I have two!
We enjoy pairing garlic bread, green beans, sweet corn, or a side Caesar salad with this dish. There are also nights where we have this dish with no sides, especially the nights we are in a pinch.
Once you try this meal and see how easy it is, it surely will wiggle its way into your meal rotation! I hope that when you try it, you love it like we do! To get the latest updates from the Family Table Farmstead, enter your email below, thanks!
